Are you guys, "good guys"?

Yes. At the risk of upsetting our attorneys, we think we are good guys.

What exactly do you do?

We (a) start companies that write software for computers or the Internet, (b) write software ourselves for computers or the Internet, (c) invest or partner with companies that write software for computers or the Internet.

What about other computer technology?

At the chance of confusing anyone, yes we are interested in starting, investing or partnering with companies that use emerging technology or existing technology in a unique way.

What do you look for in a person you would hire?

Surprising we look for similar qualities that we look for in entrepreneurs. We look for exceedingly bright people, talented and willing to use it (read work hard), energetic and loyal. We look for that package to be held together with a strong moral character. In leadership positions, we additionally look for people who can handle more things simultaneously, ambiguous situations, and are self starters. We do find the entrepreneurs are quite a bit more optimistic and more risk tolerant than regular staff.

We know we are asking for a lot. But the rewards and risk are great.

I have a great idea but it does not involve computers. Are you interested?

No. Our interest and expertise revolves around technology and software. If your idea does not involve technology or software or use it in some core fundamental way, we are not interested. There are many companies that do have interest in those ideas - just not us.

I have a software idea but I don't have a product or customers yet. Are you interested?

Yes. We are interested. In fact we prefer to get involved with the company in its earliest form.

Do I have to have a detailed business plan to submit an idea?

No. Actually during the first steps, Catalyst prefers ideas over detailed spreadsheets and summaries over plans. So no a lengthy business plan is not required. Do I have to be in Arkansas?

Yes. We are interested in creating Arkansas based companies. You must be headquartered in Arkansas, operate out of Arkansas or have an affiliate operating out of Arkansas.

Why are you located in Hardy, Arkansas?

Both founders are natives of Hardy, Arkansas. However, that is not the only reason. Hardy is a great place to live and raise a family and by the way the people in the community here are fantastic.

Hardy is located at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. It has scenic beauty including two rivers. One of the rivers, the Spring River originates fifteen miles North at Mammoth Spring. Mammoth Spring is one of the ten largest natural springs in the world. In addition, Hardy has seven local lakes and is within driving distance of Norfork lake that covers over 30,000 acres and Bull Shoals lake which has close to 1,000 miles of rugged shore line. It is simply a sportsman's and recreational paradise. Hardy has minimal traffic and is approximately equidistant from Little Rock, Arkansas, Memphis, Tennessee and Springfield, Missouri (near Branson).
